Kyowa Hakko Kirin announces the initiation of Phase 1-clinical trial of KRN23, a novel IV drug discovered by KHK for the treatment of X-linked Hypophosphatemia (XLH). XLH is a genetic metabolic condition which affects bone and teeth development.

Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. (President and CEO, Yuzuru Matsuda, "Kyowa Hakko"), Kirin Pharma Company, Limited (President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Katsuhiko Asano, "Kirin Pharma") and Kirin Holdings Company, Limited (President and CEO, Kazuyasu Kato, "Kirin Holdings") have reached an agreement with respect to a strategic alliance between the Kyowa Hakko Group and the Kirin Group targeting the overall businesses of both groups (the "Strategic Alliance") and accordingly, on October 22, 2007, entered into an integration agreement. Both groups will promote the business collaboration arising from the Strategic Alliance, enhance competitiveness and management efficiency, maximize synergy and will aim to improve their corporate values through further development.

He spoke about his ideas on business between Japan and the US. Dr. Kawamura is a member of the Board of Directors of the Japan America Society of San Diego and Tijuana.

Science Research Park:
Future Home of Kirin Pharma USA, Inc.
The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has developed a new project named the Science Research Park. This project was designed to facilitate collaboration between academia and industries in order to develop innovative therapies and medicine. LIAI and Kirin Pharma USA are now participating in his project, and have started construction of our new research building on the UCSD Science Research Park campus. We plan to move into this new 130,000+ sq.ft. facility in 2006. UCSD has also announced the opening of the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center in April 2005, also located on the Science Research Park campus. Kirin Pharma USA looks forward to collaborating with them as well.
